Disneyland Vacation Package Discounts
LAST UPDATE: 10/22/24
Some Disneyland vacation packages are actually a good value for the money — particularly the specially-priced seasonal package offers. (Generally the regular vacation packages are not discounted and you may save more by booking each component separately, in order to create your own “package.”) On this page you’ll find details on the standard Disneyland packages, as well as any current offers for Disneyland vacation package discounts.
Most of the packages listed below can be booked online at Disneyland.com. However, we find the online reservations system to be confusing and clunky and the pricing inconsistent. Also, you really have to dig around online to find out the restrictions and cancellation fees, etc.
If you’re going to spend the money to buy a vacation package, we strongly recommend using a travel agent who specializes in Disney travel. It costs you nothing, and you can sit back, relax, and have all the vacation planning and hassle taken care of by someone else.

Is A Package Right For You?
It’s important to understand the differences between booking a Disneyland Vacation Package versus booking a hotel room and buying tickets separately.
- A vacation package reservation includes a room plus park tickets, plus some extras, detailed below. Disneyland does not have a dining plan similar to the one offered at Walt Disney World, so packages don’t include dining. There is an option to add a character meal as a package add-on, but it isn’t any cheaper, it’s just a way to pre-pay for the meal.
- A room-only reservation includes just the hotel room. You can buy tickets, if needed, separately from any vendor you want. (Read our tips and discounts for Disneyland room-only reservations and Disneyland tickets.)
If you book tickets and room in the same transaction, whether through Disney or a travel agent, you are almost certainly booking a vacation package. If you reserve just a room in one transaction you are getting a room-only booking. Occasionally online travel agencies will bundle a room-only booking and a ticket purchase in one transaction, but may not be selling you an official Disneyland Vacation Package. When in doubt, view the terms and conditions and see if it comes with the Disneyland Vacation Package extras like the lanyard and extra savings card, and check the cancellation and refund policies.
Disneyland packages are convenient, since you make one booking and get everything you need all at once. But packages are not typically any less expensive than buying the components separately; they actually cost a little bit more than buying the room and the tickets at current prices. If there is a room discount available from Disney, that discount will apply to a package as well. Occasionally Disney will offer a special that only applies to package bookings, but that’s rare.
Packages have a very different deposit, cancellation and change policy than room-only bookings:
- Vacation packages require a deposit of $200, and payment in full by 30 days before arrival. Packages cancelled between 29 and 2 days prior to arrival pay a $200 cancel fee, and if cancelled 1 days or less from arrival or if the guests don’t arrive, the cancellation charge is the entire cost of the package. There is a change fee of $50 for changes within 29 days of arrival, though it is usually waived if the change results in a higher-priced package.
- Room-only reservations require a deposit of one day’s hotel charge, and payment in full upon arrival. There is no cancellation fee up to 5 days prior to arrival. If cancelled 4 days or fewer prior to arrival or if the guests don’t arrive, the cancellation fee is one day’s hotel charge. There is no change fee (though of course the price might go up or down if you change the booking).
One non-obvious advantage to booking vacation packages is that the tickets become effectively refundable. When you buy tickets in advance, whether from Disney or from a discount source, they are non-refundable. If you have to cancel your vacation after purchasing the tickets separately, you may get stuck with tickets you don’t need right now. The tickets will remain valid and can be used or traded in on a future Disneyland trip, but they can’t be returned. With a package, everything gets cancelled at once.
Because a Vacation Package potentially can incur a cancellation fee of 100%, we highly recommend getting travel insurance when booking one. Read our advice on getting travel insurance.

Package Add-ons
There are two types of add-ons that can be included with Disneyland vacation packages. One type includes overnight stays in Orange County or San Diego, thus extending the length of your vacation. Another type has you continuing to stay at the Disneyland hotels, but taking day trips to enjoy extra tours and attractions outside of Disneyland.
- Southern California Vacation Package (overnight stay package) is essentially the same as the standard Disneyland Resort Hotel Vacation Package or Good Neighbor Hotel Vacation Package (see above for details on those packages) PLUS it adds overnight stay(s) at one or more additional destinations including San Diego, Los Angeles, or Orange County AND admission to one participating San Diego attraction (Legoland, Sea Life Aquarium, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park or SeaWorld) plus admission to one participating San Diego attraction (Legoland, Sea Life Aquarium, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park or SeaWorld).
- San Diego Getaway (overnight stay package) – This package can be added on to a standard Disneyland Resort Hotel Vacation Package or Good Neighbor Hotel Vacation Package (see above for details on those packages). It includes accommodations in San Diego and admission to to one participating San Diego attraction (Legoland, Sea Life Aquarium, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park or SeaWorld).
- You can also add on day trips to many other Southern California attractions such as Knott’s, Legoland, Universal Studios Hollywood and more.
- The add-ons are complex. If you would like to include add-ons, we strongly recommend filling out a quote form with Small World Vacations. They give you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number, and we recommend them wholeheartedly!

Packages for Magic Key Annual Passholders
As of September 2021, Disneyland has a new annual pass program; we have more information here.
Magic Key annual passholders can purchase standard Disneyland Resort packages without purchasing tickets. Some discounted vacation packages may be available for annual passholders without requiring you to purchase tickets; check with your travel agent. Disneyland also offers packages for Magic Key annual passholders. Disney calls them a package, but it usually doesn’t include anything other than a hotel room and a few add-ons, like a collectible pin or a Dining Certificate, which technically make it a package. They are very similar to just booking a room-only reservation with the annual passholder discount (if any), so we list the current offers on our Disneyland Resort Hotel discounts page.
Package Discounts For Everyone
Disney often has one or more discounts available to anyone, including international guests. No special code or membership is required to use these, but there can be minimum stay lengths, blackout dates and other requirements.

Adventures by Disney – Disneyland Resort and Southern California Vacation Itinerary
Adventures by Disney is a family tour program offered by Disney, in which guests travel in small groups limited to 40 participants, and are led by two Disney-trained Adventure Guides. Each adventure is filled with immersive, interactive experiences you might never have tried if you were traveling on your own.
One of the Adventures by Disney vacation packages, the Disneyland Resort & Southern California Vacation, includes a stay at Disneyland as well as visits to TCL Chinese Theatre, The Jim Henson Company Studios, Walt Disney Imagineering and lots of other Southern California fun. The Disneyland Resort & Southern California Vacation is a 5-night/6-day vacation that focuses on Southern California, with 3 of those nights spent at Disneyland Resort. (There is also a shorter version, the Disneyland Resort & Southern California Escape that is a 3-night/4-day itinerary with one evening and one full day at Disneyland Resort.)
This package would be ideal for first-time visitors to California who want to see more than just Disneyland. It is especially suitable for those who are not comfortable with driving the California freeways, since all of the ground transportation from place to place is provided by Disney.

Expedia Packages
Some of the last-minute Expedia packages are a good value, especially if you need airfare. Sometimes it costs less to buy one of these packages than it would to buy the airfare alone. Definitely worth a look if you’re interested in a low-cost getaway to Disneyland.
Expedia has rules and requirements that can be confusing. If you decide to use Expedia, be sure to read all the small print very carefully, and select any “terms and conditions” links and read those carefully.
Membership Discounts
There are, as of now, no AAA/CAA discounts available for the Disneyland Resort hotels.
If you belong to Costco, it may be worthwhile to check their prices on vacation packages. However, don’t expect much service, and be aware that you may not get the best price in the long run.
In our experience, the big membership organizations employ “generalist” travel agents who often know little or nothing about Disney vacations and are frequently clueless about promotional packages and discount codes. You will usually have to do your own monitoring to make sure any better package offers that come out are applied to your booking. They almost never do this for you, unlike a Disney specialist agency.
Canadian Resident Packages
You can visit Disneyland’s Canadian website and select the “Special Offers” tab to see any current deals specific to Canadians, but 99% of the time the offers are the same as those distributed in the US. Sometimes the Canadian offer will have a different discount code, but otherwise it will be identical to the US offer.
Canadians can book the US offers as well.
- The Disney specialist travel agency we recommend, Small World Vacations, gladly works with clients around the globe. They have many clients from Canada.
Trip Insurance
It is especially important to buy trip insurance for a vacation package, because you have to pay the entire cost in advance and you won’t get a refund if you have to cancel right before your scheduled departure. With hundreds or even thousands of dollars at stake, it’s worth it to protect the investment.
Perhaps the most important coverage included in a trip insurance policy is trip cancellation and interruption insurance, which can protect your investment if you have to cancel your vacation at the last minute (or come home early) due to illness or injury. Depending on the policy, you may be covered if you cancel for other reasons, such as jury duty, terrorism at your destination, or even unemployment.
Emergency medical coverage and medical evacuation insurance are very important if you become ill or injured during the trip. Otherwise you’re on your own as far as booking very expensive last-minute airfare to get home. And if you’re too ill to travel by commercial jet, you may have to pay for treatment in California (which your personal insurance may or may not cover) or for evacuation on a medically-equipped jet, which is incredibly expensive.
Delayed baggage insurance will help you pay for replacement clothing if the airline sends your suitcase to Timbuktu and you need something to wear in the meantime. Supplemental baggage insurance will pay a predetermined amount if an airline loses your luggage completely. (Some higher-end credit cards provide extra baggage insurance, so check with your card issuer before paying extra for this coverage.)
Disney sells trip insurance, but for most trips, it’s more expensive than other plans, and usually more restrictive. Additionally, it only covers the cost of your Disney trip (including airfare), so if you do anything else on your trip, such as visit another theme park, buy tickets to an offsite event, etc., those aren’t covered. With a third-party policy, you can cover all potential costs of the entire trip, from any providers, with one policy. You can almost always get better insurance than Disney provides, and at better rates, by buying it elsewhere.
The one situation where Disney’s insurance is a good deal is for very expensive trips. Disney’s insurance is charged at a flat rate per adult (children are included as long as all adults buy the insurance), but third-party plans have a variable charge based on the total cost of your trip and the ages of the adults. The break-even point for a family with two 30-year old adults is usually around $8,000 of total trip costs. So if you’re 60 years old, flying in from New Zealand and staying at the Grand Californian in a concierge room for 10 nights, Disney’s travel insurance is an incredible steal. For most trips, though, third-party insurance is a better deal.
Be aware that in most cases, trip insurance will provide slightly less coverage (usually by adding exclusions on pre-existing conditions) unless you buy it within about 14-21 days of paying your DEPOSIT on the vacation package. So be sure to purchase it right away, once you’ve committed to the trip.
